14.10.24

TG4 is excited to announce live coverage of the Allianz GAA Football Inter-Provincial Series Semi-Finals on Friday, 18th October. The series will give supporters the first chance to see the proposed new rule changes for Gaelic football, introduced by the Football Review Committee, chaired by Jim Gavin. This is the first time the proposed rule changes will be shown to a national audience.

These innovative changes, include the “solo and go”, allowing fouled players to continue without taking a free, the value of a goal to increase from three to four points, “3/3 Up/Back” where both teams always have a minimum of three players inside each 65, among others. A full list of the rule changes can be found at gaa.ie.

Speaking to Spórt TG4 on Thursday, Jim Gavin said: “We’ll have our proposed rule enhancements here in Croke Park for the Allianz Interprovincial Series covered by TG4 on Friday the 18th, which will be a momentous day in the evolution of Gaelic football rules. You’re going to see a lot more kick-passing, long-range scores, goal scoring, high fielding and one-to-one creativity. If you tune into the games on the 18th of October on GAA Beo what you’re going to see is a fast, dynamic, exciting game of Gaelic Football. It’ll look very natural but it’s going to be a lot of entertainment.” Full interview available here

TG4’s coverage will begin at 5:30 pm, with the first semi-final at 6:00 pm, where Leinster, managed by Dessie Dolan, will take on Connacht, led by Pádraic Joyce. The second semi-final follows at 8:00 pm, with Munster, under the direction of John Cleary, facing Kieran Donnelly’s Ulster side. Player lists featuring various inter-county stars have yet to be announced.
