A TG4 current affairs documentary Iniúchadh TG4 – Céad Míle Fáilte? has been announced as the overall winner in the ‘Investigative Journalism’ category at PRIX CIRCOM 2023. The award for the Investigative Journalism category is sponsored by the Council of Europe. Fourteen judges, representatives of regional public service television stations in Europe watched more than 170 submitted entries for this year’s Prix CIRCOM Awards. They rewarded the very best productions in 11 categories, ranging from Documentaries, News Report to Music and Arts, and Digital Multimedia. Entries came from 22 regional public service television stations in Europe.
The winning programme Iniúchadh TG4 – Céad Míle Fáilte? examines recent anti-immigration protests across Ireland and the role being played by a few activists from the anti-immigration movement to drive the protests. The programme also looks at the level of misinformation that exists in relation to immigration and asylum seekers in Ireland. The programme asks if the anti-immigration protests and the growing number of refugees and asylum seekers coming to Ireland is contributing to racism.
The programme is part of TG4’s monthly current affairs strand Iniúchadh TG4. It is produced by Belfast-based Clean Slate Productions and presented by investigative journalist Kevin Magee.
The Prix CIRCOM awards honours the best regional productions. They are the most important international awards for regional programmes and were first presented in 1990. There are eleven categories in this year’s awards ranging from Documentaries, News Report to Music and Arts, and Digital Multimedia.
TG4’s Head of News and Current Affairs, Deirdre Ní Choistín says “I would like to congratulate Clean Slate Productions on this award which recognises the quality of journalism in the programme on a European level by CIRCOM judges. The programme portrays an Irish perspective on a European-wide issue. TG4 is committed to the development of News and Current Affairs across all platforms, and receiving this award is a testament to that commitment.”
The awards will be presented on June 1st at a Gala show as part of the CIRCOM Regional Annual Conference which takes place in Donostia-San Sebastian, Spain, hosted by EITB – Basque Radio and Television.
