06.06.19

At this evenings Celtic Media Festival Torc awards in Aviemore, Scotland, TG4’s documentary Lomax in Éirinn was awarded Spirit of the Festival

Lomax in Éirinn: Clannad’s Pól Brennan explores Texan song-collector Alan Lomax’s dream to save the music of the world and shows how that mission began in 1951 in Ireland. Lomax in Éirinn brings the viewer on a stunning journey as Pól follows Lomax’s life story through the Mississippi Delta, Washington, New York and along the west coast of Ireland. Lomax’s legacy is shown to be alive today with performances from Clannad, Steve Earle, Nell Ní Chróinín and Slow Moving Clouds. The result is a poetic and moving celebration of the value of traditional music not only in Ireland but throughout the world. Produced by Aisling Productions.

The Celtic Media Festival (CMF) is one of the most prestigious and long-established in these islands and is held each year, rotating between venues in the various Celtic nations and regions.  It combines a three-day media conference that attracts broadcasters, producers, media and students with a competition across the full range of Film, TV, Radio and new media content genres.  CMF awards are highly coveted. Entries go through a national pre-selection phase with the shortlist from each country announced in February before advancing to the international Festival. This year’s Festival is taking place in Aviemore in Scotland from the 4th to 6th of June 2019 (www.celticmediafestival.co.uk)

TG4 Ardstiúrthóir Alan Esslemont, congratulated the winning entry, saying; “This is public service content of the highest quality, he said “and we are gratified, but not surprised at this latest accolade from our peers in the Celtic media industries.”
