TG4 welcomes the Government’s Audiovisual Action Plan
28.06.18
Speaking today, Esslemont says:
“The Irish language sector is at the heart of Ireland’s creative economy.
“The targets in this plan dovetail well with TG4’s Strategic Five Year Plan, due particularly to the emphasis on the development of the audiovisual sector in the regions.
“The hugely important role of the industry in driving Ireland’s economic growth is recognised, as are the opportunities to further internationalise the sector. For many years now, TG4 has demonstrated how successful this approach can be and it can also be seen in the work of companies such as Telegael, Nemeton & Cartoon Saloon, who started out in the industry working with TG4 and have now become significant players in the global marketplace.
“The plan also recognises the need for further finance, development and coproduction supports, as well as the need to strengthen the tax incentives that are currently available.
“Training must be an integral part of these efforts also, so we can ensure that there is a constant stream of new talent available to the audiovisual sector.
“It is important that the report recognises the added value that the Irish language audiovisual sector brings to the regions in which those companies are located.
“The Government needs to acknowledge that TG4 is one of the primary stakeholders in relation to the implementation of the Action Plan and on foot of that we will be expecting representation within the different fora that will be dealing with it”.
