TG4 Election programme to feature interviews with senior leadership figures
TG4 will play host to an important part of the current General Election campaign next Wednesday (17th Feb) as senior representatives of the four main political parties arrive there to be interviewed in depth and ‘as Gaeilge’ on its main evening news programme, Vóta 2016, broadcast 7-8.30pm.
Fine Gael leader and Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin, Sinn Féin Finance spokesperson Pearse Doherty and Labour Party Minister of State Aodhán Ó Riordáin will all be quizzed on their party’s track records and election policies and promises by the TG4’s award-winning news anchor Eimear Ní Chonaola and current affairs presenter Páidí Ó Lionáird in one-on-one interviews.
Coming just a week before polling day, the in-depth interviews will combine questions on the election issues that have made national headlines since the start of the campaign – health, taxation, the fiscal space, jobs and crime, with the Fine Gael, Labour, Sinn Féin and Fianna Fáil representatives all explaining their different stances. Issues of special interest to the TG4 audience – education, Gaeltacht affairs, rural crime, agriculture and current state of the Irish language are also certain to feature in the questioning.
The TG4 extended interviews in Irish as Gaeilge will be broadcast by TG4 with on-screen English subtitles. To facilitate the subtitling process, the interviews will be pre-recorded. An Taoiseach’s interview will be recorded at the Clayton Hotel in Galway at 4pm on the day with the Fianna Fáil leader due in TG4 Headquarters in Baile na hAbhann at 10am for his interview.
Vóta 2016 will be broadcast on Wednesday, February 17th at 7pm on TG4.
