Produced by the acclaimed Cartoon Saloon and directed by Tomm Moore (who also directed the Oscar-nominated animation The Secret of Kells) this charming story draws on the Irish tradition of the ‘selkie’. The story centres around Saoirse, a young girl who does not speak. She has lost her mother and is being reared by her father on an island with her brother Ben. But Saoirse discovers that she is special and can transform into a seal. This brings her on a quest and a magical maritime adventure. The story is tender and appealing, enhanced by the wonderful animation and charming songs.
